03/28/2013 by chicquero

Leonid Afremov (born 12 July 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus) is a Russian–Israeli modern impressionistic artist who works mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own unique technique and style which is unmistakable and cannot be confused with other artists. Afremov is mainly known as being a self-representing artist who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little exhibitions and involvement of dealers and galleries. The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude. Friedrich Nietzsche […]

Flesh and acrylic

10/08/2012 by chicquero

“Flesh and Acrylic” is Ben Heine’s latest project (started in 2011). Ben creates abstract acrylic paintings on large wooden panels. The main idea is to create a surface blending the model with the background. Indeed, the particularity of the project resides in the fact that a living person is integrated in the artwork and is part of the whole composition. The end result is often wild and very colorful. Once the painting is finished, Ben takes pictures of it. The photos […]

From medieval water tower to sleek residence

10/02/2012 by chicquero

The Lymm Water Tower is an award winning renovation of a once derelict Grade II listed water tower converted into a luxurious contemporary family home. Renovated by Ellis William Architects, the octagonal stone water tower is complemented by a new modernist wrap around double height extension. This highly glazed addition offers carefully selected vistas across the adjacent fields and considers the existing mature trees surrounding the site. The Harris family bought the tower thirteen years ago with the idea of […]

Spitting on Capitalism!

08/06/2012 by chicquero

Tom Sachs is a sculptor, probably best known for his elaborate recreations of various Modern icons, all of them masterpieces of engineering and design of one kind or another. A lot has been made of the conceptual underpinnings of these sculptures: how Sachs’ sampling capitalist culture, remixing, dubbing and spitting it back out again, so that the results are transformed and transforming. Equally, if not more important, is his total embrace of “showing his work.” All the steps that led […]

The new beginning

01/30/2012 by chicquero

Splash 2012 Calendar It’s the end of january. And as we’re all aware, 2012 is supposedly the end of the world too. Now while everyone has their own theories on how the world will end, talented photographer Tejal Patni turns things around optimistically as he believes every end leads to a new beginning. He takes this concept of new beginnings to conceptualize a calendar for fashion brand Splash. Heavily influenced by B-movie sci-fi clichés, the calendar asks: are we destined […]

Pop interiors

01/11/2012 by chicquero

I’m sure you are familiar with Roy Lichtenstein’s work, he is one of my favorite pop artists, very influential and unique. His comic book-inspired style, during the 1990’s, rendered his famous trademark. The works are focusing on modern furniture and architecture, highlighting the simple forms and atmosphere of decorative apartment life during this time period. Some of the artwork depicted on the walls of the interiors even seems to be in the vain of Lichtenstein’s work, which is inevitable, as anything rendered […]

Silk Road, Green Path, Yellow Luxury

09/13/2011 by chicquero

Silk Road restaurant, located at the strip in Las Vegas, beautifully designed by one of my favorite modern designers, Karim Rashid. With over 4,000 square feet, stunning décor and floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking Nancy Rubin’s gravity-defying sculpture, Big Edge. I can feel the mediterranean spice, integrated with shapes and strong lines. The project is part of the Vdara Hotel, that combines quality of life with a commitment to sustainable design. It is one of the world’s largest environmentally sustainable urban […]
