Deep fried gadgets

11/08/2012 by chicquero

In a project whose title speaks for itself, Brooklyn-based photographer Henry Hargreaves in collaboration with food stylist Caitlin Levin literally deep-fried a series of electronics equipment but don´t you worry, no technologies were harmed in the shooting of this project. Although the gadgets look real, they’re actually recreations made with a material called foamcore, which were then dipped in batter and dunked in oil. After discovering an online video of an unsuccessful attempt by Japanese youths to deep fry a […]

Spitting on Capitalism!

08/06/2012 by chicquero

Tom Sachs is a sculptor, probably best known for his elaborate recreations of various Modern icons, all of them masterpieces of engineering and design of one kind or another. A lot has been made of the conceptual underpinnings of these sculptures: how Sachs’ sampling capitalist culture, remixing, dubbing and spitting it back out again, so that the results are transformed and transforming. Equally, if not more important, is his total embrace of “showing his work.” All the steps that led […]

The Beatles Mania

05/22/2012 by chicquero

Since The Beatles don’t need introduction, I’m done with this paragraph (just joking!). Well, this is a very cool collection that I found in Abduzeedo and I couldn´t handle it. As a huge fan of the forever trendy genius Liverpool guys I had to post it. This collection is a mixed bag consisting of pictures, pop art, toys, album covers, pictures, concert tickets, etc… Even for the “non-fanatic” ones should be interesting. Hope you enjoy it! Life is what happens […]

My house burnt down.. again!

02/26/2012 by chicquero

If your house was burning, what would you take with you? It’s a conflict between what’s practical, valuable and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question. The Burning House This is the second post about this project, we love everything about it. Also check it out: What if your house was burning Success isn’t a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire. Arnold H. Glasow >>>YOU […]

POPaganda, art and crimes!

12/06/2011 by chicquero

Popaganda Art Gallery Ron English is an American contemporary artist who explores popular brand imagery and advertising. His signature style employs a mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, including comic superhero mythology and totems of art history, to create a visual language of evolution. Ron blends stunning visuals with biting political, consumerist and surrealist statements, hijacking public space worldwide for the sake of art since the 1980s. We love Ron´s pop, pervert, prankster art, his images are fun reflections of our bizarre popular […]

A slap in the face for Society

11/22/2011 by chicquero

I´m a huge fan of great drawings and illustrations, especially those expressing some great satire. The Polish artist Paul Kuczynski (he needs to improve his website), has a great hand, not to mention his great mind. Take a minute to analyse each of the following images, they all have a great cause and a truthful message behind. In my opinion, his work is very well done in terms of colours, form and production. There is a social political commentary communicated and […]

Mustache Monday

11/21/2011 by chicquero

Mustache Freaks Mustache is that facial hair grown on the outer surface of the upper lip. It may or may not be accompanied by a type of beard, a facial hair style grown and cropped to cover most of the lower half of the face. The word “moustache” derives from 16th century French moustache, which in turn is derived from the Italian mostaccio.  Dave Mead is an Austin, Texas-based (why I’m not surprised?) photographer who shoots advertising and editorial with a primary focus on the […]

Holiday tease..

11/19/2011 by chicquero

Loewe Holiday Collection 2011/2012 What a brilliant campaign from Loewe’s, the spanish luxury brand specialized in high quality leather goods and accessories. They have been around since 1846, and lately, they are doing a really good marketing job. The following shoot is part of a very creative campaign to increase their holiday sales, I’m sure they will be fine! I love the simplicity and the colors contrasts with the pieces. These could be great displays, windows and a possible animated viral “stop […]

Dreaming in a pragmatic way.

11/15/2011 by chicquero

Dream Sequence Madame Peripetie aka Sylwana Zybura is a polish photographer based in Germany. The conceptual photographer is greatly influenced by Surrealism, Dadaism as well as the new wave era of the ’80s, British post punk scene and the avant-garde theater. I love her dreamy sequence, very out of this world. Sylwana explores the boundaries between fashion, photography and the human essence, experimenting through different colors, shapes and feelings. So peculiar, strange and beautiful, at the same time. Keep dreaming.. […]

Knitting is not for pussies

11/12/2011 by chicquero

Knitting the world Olek was born Agata Oleksiak in Poland and graduated with a degree in Cultural Studies. In New York City, she rediscovered her ability to crochet and, since then, has started her crocheted journey. Olek believes she chose crochet as her artistic method in order to do two things at once: watch movies and make art (what a dream job). Knitting is a method by which thread or yarn may be turned into cloth or other fine crafts. Knitted fabric consists […]
